Today started early in Sudbury, Canada as we woke up with the intention to get to Toronto early and have enough time to spend half a day in the city. The end goal of the day was to get to Niagara Falls and then onto Ashleys families house. Sudbury is about 3 hours from Toronto so we had to get up extremely early, close to 5am. with this in mind we of course had our morning routine for Canada of getting gas and coffee from tim hortons. Because we only planned half a day i the country we decided to have breakfast and walk the city. We looked up a nice place for breakfast downtown and paid for parking in one of the main buildings. The typical Canadian breakfast was of course canadian bacon and eggs, so naturally we decided to get that and have pancakes and other sides as well.
Once breakfast was over we decided to walk around the downtown metro area, but we knew from the beginning of the day that we are only stopping there quickly because we had to get through into new york by the evening. Toronto of course is one of the biggest cities in north america so for us to expect to see allot of it inhale a day was a stretch, but either way we could at least say we have been there I t reminded me of new york city to a degree just on the lake rather than the ocean.
After a stroll downtown and through the famous buildings we decided to get a small lunch on the bay, and hopped into a local sports bar near the rogers stadium near the marina. I had to get a beer since that seemed to be more routine than anything at this point of the trip. We decided that a local tasting of brews would be a good way to experience the bay marina and downtown area. Since we knew that there was nothing left to see that was easily accessible or walkable at this point, we decided to head towards New york state and the US again.
It was about 3 in the afternoon at this point and we still had to see the world famous Niagara falls. I was expecting a busy area when pulling into the falls (which were about an hour drive south of toronto, but I did not expect too ee the development as it was, full of casinos, hotels, restaurants, theme parks, and tourist activities. I was blown away at the scale of the place and was impressed the tourism that it drove for the locals there. Our goal of course was to see the falls and experience the power of them. We paid $20 for parking (which was a rip off but I suppose as decent entry fee), and walked about a quarter mile to get to the overlook and the walkway along the falls. They were actually incredibly impressive, and we were able to see them from the Canadian side which I was told many times were much more impressive. This was true as I was able to see both views driving into the USA.
Since we were in a well developed area and we knew we wouldn’t be getting to her parents place until late we decided to head to dinner while we were in the area, at a casino that seemed to be well like and popular. we found an asian sushi/ pho place, and we feasted on great cuisine. By this time is was getting dark and IT was getting late however and we still had to get to Ashleys parents house so we decided to head into the USA before it was dark, and we ended up about and hour and a half from Rochester, which was where her family was located. We headed into town, and knew that there would be no dinner so we took our time getting to the house, and ended up in the drive way of her uncles right at dark, and I was introduced to her family. After hanging out for a bit headed to bed since we had had a long day of exploring Toronto and Niagara.
