Waking up today we knew that the primary reason for getting up was to arrive in Salzburg at the correct time. There was not much sightseeing to do today, just get on the bus to the train station and head towards Salzburg so we could explore the next day. This allowed us to sleep in and get in position to take our time leaving Cesky. We did run into an issue with the bus driver out of Cesky that day, as the train line was down for repair, so there were many people waiting on a transfer to another station, thus the busses they sent were packed. We ended up connecting in Cesky Budejovice.
We arrived in Salzburg about 4pm and had a little less than 3 hours to explore before darkness set, so we decided to head along the river. Before we did this however we had to stop in the primary train station, and then head to our hotel of Kolpinghaus. This is actually a semi hostel, and we used the upgraded room to have it to ourselves. This was a nice treat considering we had expected to have hostels the majority of this trip.
There was ample sunlight left for the day for us to venture into the city. We once again walked along the river located close to our hostel. This river had a nice walking bridge not to it, which was worth exploring since I was there, but we were still about half a mile from the downtown area even along the riverside.
We passed hundreds of vendors as it seemed to be an evening market where we were walking by, and people were gather enjoying the evening with friends and families , and music along with shopping. I was quickly learning that European culture is largely centered around communal gatherings, and markets for families and friends and the community to get together.
It was getting late, but we had time to explore the downtown square of the city. This featured 2 large cathedrals, and with that we ventured into. One unfortunately had a service going on, thus we couldn’t get into it…however we still were able to appreciate the outside of the building. At this point it was getting dark, so we headed back to the hotel, and enjoyed a slow night watching netflix, and resting for a long and exciting day of exploring tomorrow.
