August 2 – Day 33
This day starts off early as usual with an attempt to get out of bed early enough to have sometime to explore the city. This time we were to explore the famous natural hot spring baths in the city. these Thermal baths were called the Szechenyi Thermal Spring Baths and are in the famed yellow building pictured below.
We only had about 3 hours, and since we were walking there with our things from the hotel (about a mile walk), we stopped for a nice local breakfast and sat down to start the day. This was a nice way to begin as I knew we had a long day ahead of us with a night time train ride coming up. There was about a half mile walk left to get to the thermal baths.
The walk was nice, however the baths were located in a local park, and in the park was the Millenium monument, with was a semi circle of former leaders of Hungary. This was a nice thing to see and was unexpected with what was planned that day. We took some pictures and revealed in the history of the place, then continued with our walk to the bath houses.
These were not particularly busy since it was a weekday when we were there, so we were able to go through a short line and head through into the baths. This required us to buy a locker and rent a towel, which as actually expected and preferred since we didn’t want to go without. We spent about 2 hours in the baths relaxing and soaking up the early morning atmosphere for a culmination of cultures soaking in the baths. This was a nice way to get a half day done and head towards the train station. The total costs of this was about $90 but since we were in the area we wanted to do it and have the experience. I believe it was worth it.
It was time to head to our connecting train towards Zagreb correct night train. We were to head to the city of Zagreb which was about a 5hour train ride. The ride itself was smooth, however upon arriving in Zagreb, we had to get our passports verified by having the train conductor stop the train, and check our information. This was a surprise and slightly scary, as there was no people other than us from America, and we were not expecting to be interrogated. Either way, they approved us and sent us on our way. we arrived in the city, and came to the hotel. The check in process of this hostel was nice, and considering we received a room to ourselves without expecting it, we would consider that a win. With that in mind we decided to get dinner in the city and picked the last restaurant open that was available. We had split a fish dinner with an appetizer for dinner and it was worth the money. We were just glad to be in the city, and since we were tired with an early morning ahead of us, we decided to head to bed. This was a great day, especially since we were able to get a nice hotel finally!
