On the next day we woke up in the car around 8 o’clock and in all honesty it was not the most comfortable sleep. This was after going out to the ‘No Vacancy’ speakeasy In Los Angeles. Our goal for today was to go to Huntington Beach then San Diego and meet up with my friend from Tampa Avery. This was a friend of mine who was a bartender in Tampa.
We started off having breakfast on the original Queen Mary cruise liner which is stationed in its berth at the LA port. Ashley really loves the Titanic and all the history that surrounds it so she really wanted to go on. So we went in the ship and had breakfast and explored a little bit before we got back on the road. There’s a great breakfast in the ship that features a buffet every morning and is not too expensive.
From that point we decide to head back to the car and get on Pacific One Highway and head south to Huntington Beach. This is a famous beach on the Pacific West Coast and we really just wanted to stop so we can get our feet in the water. We realized that we had just went entirely across the whole country finally from sea to shining sea!
We got back on the road from here but unfortunately heading south we ran into some traffic but this was only about a 30 minute delay but put us in San Diego around 1230. We ended up exploring the little Italy district of San Diego and went to a great bar called the Waterfront grill, where we had the best beer of the trip in my opinion which was a mango wheat beer. This was at San Diego’s oldest bar and we only did this because we were waiting for Avery to get to the other place called Ballast Point Brewery.
We ended up meeting her over there after we finished our drink and met up with Avery to talk about the trip and re-communicate.
After we were done we decided to go for a drive around the city, and looked up sites to see. The San Diego Zoo is considered on of the best in the world, but we went there and figured we did not have enough time to explore in detail. Nonetheless it was time for dinner.
That night we decided to go out to dinner and stay in the city but once again we stayed in the car. For dinner we went down to the Red Fox Room and Steakhouse. This was a great reasonably priced steak dinner, and we were very happy with our decision. This left us with the evening in San Diego.
We decided to go to the gaslight district of San Diego where there are a ton of bars near the stadium. If I didn’t know any better this would’ve been the most fun place that we went through the whole trip as far as partying is concerned. Our goal was to go into one of the best speakeasies in the world called Noble Experiment. This is located in the bar called The Neighborhood bar and in its own right is already a cool hangout.
The speakeasy itself takes reservations but it’s located behind what looks like a stack of beer kegs but in reality it is a door to an underground bar. This bar features fine cocktails, and the decor consists of skulls on the wall. French paintings, and dark lighting that provide intimate but unique experience. We had two drinks as you can see from the pictures. This ran us about $32 so it definitely ate into our daily budget.
We were tired but we decided to hit up a couple more bars and maybe a dance club. I grabbed a cigar at Cesar’s cigar and spirit Lounge. Then we went to the dance club called Omni. This was cool but we were tired and I didn’t feel like dancing too much.
After this we decide to move the car into a metered parking zone where it was free after hours where we were in. This is where we slept for the night and we actually slept pretty well. San Diego overall was one of our favorite cities, not just because the planes fly over you when you’re at the bars but the nightlife and the architecture of the city is a perfect balance. The views are gorgeous and the people are generally nice. I cannot say the same about Los Angeles however but we will get into that in a later post.
