After getting up early to head towards canada, we made a point of stopping near the Thousand Islands area of Northern New York. We had to cross a large bridge into Canada over these lakes, so we decided to stop at a small town on the coast. This really wasn’t exciting at all, as the only thing we could do with the cold wind coming off the water was to head toward Canada after taking picture of the water. There would be allot to do if we weren’t in the mindset to explore and hike, but this is definitely a wealthy area of the country for people who want to kayak and boat, and this was not on our agenda. Onward to Canada!
We crossed the border and came to the outskirts of Ottawa. This is where we started to get a good feel for the country again. The main road CA 1 from where we were was an interstate of sorts heading eastward. We ended up in the downtown area of Ottawa, which was Canadas capital, and we decided to get our usual Tim Hortons, while in the city. We also decided to check in before we got to the downtown capital area. This was good so we could immediately go back to the hotel after a long day of walking.
We parked the car downtown and decided to explore the main parts first. This city is known for the outside capital area, and for the unique green copper roofs on its capital buildings. Parliament is set with three buildings in a large square of a lawn. This is the main attraction to the city. During the period we were there, there was an international display for Korea going on This was showcasing fighting styles and cultural respect for the country. This was great to see, and enjoyable to watch. We spent the morning here, and once a day, they do a marching of a band, form that area to the war memorial. This is a parade of drums and band members. This was a great start to the day, but it was time for a beer, and this is where I discovered my all time favorite beer, Kronenbourg Blanc. We decided to head to a pub. This was next to the capital, and you can tell by the picture I was in need of a shave, and shower! Either way, the only thing left for the day was to head to the cathedral, which was one of the attractions of the city. At this point we determined it was time to see the east side of the city, which is called the old own area.
This is very European, and almost german, and Irish, with various pubs, and places to eat and lounge outside. This was extremely enjoyable and we had lunch at du mode. This allowed us to drink more, and head to dinner. We decided to eat at a nice pub for dinner. This was a great restaurant and we enjoyed ourselves. It was time to head to the hotel, and call it a day. We had seen most of the city, and all things on our bucket list, and it was time to rest, for a big day in Montreal tomorrow.
