This morning started in Quebec city, and of course we started out day with coffee from Tim Hortons, and donuts. Not exactly healthy but we were able to get a start of energy for the day. The goal of today was to get to the Hopewell Rocks in the Bay Of Fundy Canada. The drive from Quebec is relatively nice, as you can see over the sound of the St Lawrence River. This is a nice scenic area while you leave the city of Quebec, but overall this drive turns into tree lined areas.
This was about a 5 hour drive, and since we were already off to a slow start we had a limited amount of time in the day to explore. It was almost 3 pm by the time we reached the Hopewell Rocks. The entry for this was 20$, but this was the perfect time to arrive. The Bay of Fundy is known to have the most fluctuated tides in the world, and can have daily swings of almost 40ft of water levels. You could easily see this at the Hopewell Rocks.
Because of this crazy tide fluctuation , the coastline has a dramatic sight of carved sandstone rocks, which were the hopewell rocks. The visitor center for this area is a rather large parking lot, which features a few different trails to the beach line. The rocks themselves are accessible during the midday, but as we were there, we had just made it to the bottom of the stairwell lading to the beach, before realizing and first hand seeing the tide come in. We were able to enjoy the rocks, and safely make it back up however, which was lucky, as if we were not able to see the rocks before the tide, it would have been a waste of the day and money to tour this natural wonder of the world.
The surrounding area of this part of Canada is relatively slow paced, with small towns along the coast of Fundy. These towns reflect the nature of these tides, as the boat racks for personal craft have pillars almost 30ft tall so the tide can reach them! This was funny and interesting to see. This was very cool, and we were able to take a break in the town of Riverside-Albert before we reached our hotel for the night.
WE decided to have dinner intros town as well and booked our hotel which was a bed and breakfast called…This was the perfect way to spend the night, as we had to head to PEI the next day. The hotel was a small bed and breakfast with two single beds which were the only room available. After cleaning up for the day, we decided to get a beer at … a local bar, where we were able to meet some local canadians. It was time for the next day and to get some rest.
