Today started in the area of the Bay of Fundy, and we were fortunate to be able to get good sleep at a nice bed and breakfast. This was a wonderful location, and with the rainy weather, a great decision to stay here, as there was plenty of camping, and I was torn deciding to spend the money to get hotel. We of course were happy with the decision and decided to head northward toward Prince Edward Island.
This was a wonderful drive through the northeastern province of Canada, where our initial goal was to reach Cape Breton. This scenic area is what we would compare to the pacific coast highway in the USA. The drive to get there however was quite long, so as the day continued we decided to just see PEI and continue south back into the USA, and get back to reality, as we had to tackle the entire east coast in a matter of a week or so.
Nonethelsss we headed into PEI, and one of the primary features to this area was the Massive bridge called the PEI bridge. This was a huge bucket list of mine to see and drive. It was $40 Canadian to drive across, but one only pays upon leaving back to the mainland. The island itself was gorgeous, however we were bombarded by rain, and we were only able to explore a small piece of coastline before we realized that the weather had made our efforts futile, as it didn’t seem to let up at all. This was ok as we had decided to turn around after this crossing of the bridge, once again because Cape Breton was just a little bit too far to get to. We headed back towards the USA, and in all honesty this was the one regret I had about the entire trip, as I believe we should’ve put the effort in to get to that part of the country, as it would be very hard to get back to this area in again in the future. We also missed out on getting a city called Halifax which was another bucket list area of the trip. We knew we could come back, but I didn’t realize it would be so long. Either way, we headed back to the USA, and crossed into the motherland around 4pm, and with 2 hours of driving left to get us in position of the next day, we booked our hotel near Portland, Maine.
This was our first time in Maine, and I knew Acadia National Park would be amazing the next day, however the drive from Canada to our hotel was lackluster. The tree lined roads were unfortunately not in bloom with the famous red and yellow colors of fall, but rather of the remains of summer, which were not ugly, just not preferred.
We checked into our hotel about 7pm, and there was enough sunlight to get dinner across the street at a shack which was highly rated. Of course being in Maine we had to get lobster rolls, and crab, so we decided on just that at this location. We headed to the hotel and relaxed to get ready for the next day.
